Description
The exhibition building on the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, built in 1908 by Joseph Maria Olbrich, was extensively renovated by schneider+schumacher. The aim of the refurbishment was to preserve the listed building and at the same time enable modern, flexible use with contemporary technology and high energy efficiency. A central element of the sustainable energy concept is the integration of over 550 m² of Clina capillary tube mats for heating and cooling, which were invisibly integrated into the ceiling surfaces. The refurbishment was subsidised by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). In 2021, Mathildenhöhe was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as a unique Art Nouveau ensemble.
